Labor & Delivery of Lauren Aliya
All right, this is a little out of order of Laurens life but here's the whole story of my labor and delivery...
I worked all day on October 19th. Lauren wasn't due until Saturday the 23rd and I was going to finish out the work week then call it quits.
11:30 PM - I went to bed
12:00 AM - woke up to pee and water broke. Called the doc, she said to head in. Showered, threw the sheets in the wash and hit the road. No contractions as of yet, just leaking.
1:30 AM - arrive at the hospital, get checked in and do paperwork. Contractions are starting but only minor - felt like heavy menstral cramps at this point. The nurse checks me and I'm not dialated at all. Midwive comes in, gives us the indication that she thinks we are in for the long haul and they will probably have to induce, we'll start talking about Pitocin at 7:00 AM if things are not moving along.
4:00 AM - contractions are definitely stronger and painful but still bearable. They are about 5 mintues apart at this point.
5:00 AM - contractions all of a sudden go from 5 minutes apart to 1 minute between them and stay that way. The pain is getting very bad and I'm throwing up during some contractions. Couldn't talk at all during contractions, just trying to breath through them. Nurse seems very suprised at this and decides it's time to check me again. I'm dialated to 4 cm now, she hooks up some more fluids and gets me prepared for the epidural.
6:00 AM - Epidural time. I was terrified about this but it wasn't painful at all. Life is GOOD after the epidural. I was able to relax and not feel a thing. They told me to let them know when the pressure was intensifying. I just tried to get some rest but really was to excited to sleep.
11:00 AM - midwife comes in to check me. The pressure was not getting much stronger but when she checked me, baby girl was right there so it was time to start pushing. It took about 5-10 minutes to get everything prepped and then the pushing started. Once her head came out and they suctioned her mouth, DH got to deliver her the rest of the way.
11:22 AM - Lauren Aliyah is delivered! DH put her on my chest, then they whisked her off for clean up. I had a 2nd degree tear and got stitched up. They brought baby back for some bonding time and I breastfeed her right away.
That's it! The whole experience was awesome and I think I got off extremely easy. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
